Most of my works are formulated in series in relatively large number. To me, art is the means of understanding my own reasons for existing: As an artist, I try to express through visual means the thoughts and imaginings that arise out of my own life experience. My primary concerns as an artist, which are both elemental and universal, are: (1) the collective creative mind of humanity; (2) civilization’s accomplishments and also its destructive power; (3) and the efforts of humanity and human beings to redeem civilization in balance with nature. I attempt not only to create art for its own sake but also to experience the art-making process and to share my awareness of it with others.
LINES
& SIGNS II (from SCIACShow September 4 – October 16, 2004)
"No matter how complicated the world becomes, in a quiet momentone
must feel the wonderment of being alive as a human being on this
planet. There is a fundamental desire in all of us to connect with
one another in the community of humanity. My recent work in the
exhibition titled LINES & SIGNS II explores the means humanity
has devised for expressing intangible thoughts and feelings by using
the motifs of pure abstraction such as lines and signs. I am paying
tribute to the ingenuity of the human mind that expresses through
systems of writing, visual representation, mathematical symbols,
musical notations and other signifying forms. Numerical systems,
Chinese, Japanese and English characters and writings, musical notes
and bars, architectural notations, mathematical curves and random
calligraphic lines that suggest movements and images of nature are
the elements that I work with. It is my hope that some of these
pieces will become instruments that trigger thoughts about the continuum
of creativity." |
